Electric bike prices could drop by a third as part of UK government subsidy plan

  Pilot scheme expected before April 2021 The UK government is considering plans to subsidise the purchase of electric bikes, which could see prices to consumers drop by up to a third, according to The Times.  Outlines of the scheme were given in response to a parliamentary question by transport minister Chris Heaton-Harris, who said that the government was “developing a national programme of support to boost ebike uptake to the levels seen in many other countries”. E-bike sales have more than doubled during Covid-19 pandemic

One pound in every five spent on bicycles between January and October was spent on e-bikes  National trade association the Bicycle Association (BA) has released a ‘COVID Impact’ report on the UK cycling economy, covering sales from January to October 2020. It reveals that e-bike sales more than doubled during this period, accounting for one pound in every five spent on bikes.
